Understanding What Causes Under Eye Problems
While we do tend to get dark rings under our eyes when we are excessively tired, are suffering from a lack of sleep, or are suffering from ongoing stress, the condition can also be due to aging. When this is the case, no amount of sleep is going to get rid of the circles, bags, or hollow tear troughs.
As we get older, what happens is our skin loses flexibility and the fat pads that once gave it attractive, natural plumpness diminish and the area under the eyes begins to look sunken. The sunken tear trough often looks even deeper because it makes a shadow.
Under-eye treatment corrects the loss of volume under the eyes with a dermal filler that literally lifts the skin to level it and remove the trough. This removes the dark shadowing which, in turn, makes you look well-rested and fresh.

Who is a Good Candidate for Under Eye Treatment?
Shadowing under the eyes can happen for a number of reasons. If your dark circles are caused by pigment or by vascular issues, a filler isn’t going to erase them magically.
However, if you have a hollow half-moon hanging out under your eyes, you’re in luck. Filler is a great option for people who lack volume under the eyes.
With age, as fat compartments in the face drop, the under-eye area separates from the cheek, giving a hollow appearance. This also occurs in some young people because of genetics and the natural shape of the face.
Fillers can be used to create a smooth transition between the under-eye area and the upper cheek.
What to Expect after your treatment:
Once you get past the apprehension of having a needle placed that close to your eye, the procedure is relatively quick and painless. For sensitive types, topical numbing creams can be applied to the area 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure to minimize discomfort.
Some post-prick puffiness and bruising is likely. This area is particularly prone to bruising. Swelling can occur but usually diminishes within a few days after treatment.
You should expect any bruising to improve in one to two weeks. It’s important to avoid blood thinners—including fish oil supplements and aspirin for at least a week prior to treatment, and many doctors also recommend taking homeopathic arnica supplements to minimize bruising.
