Juvederm or Restylane? Which should You Choose?

Before going into whether Juvederm® or Restylane® is right for you, let’s discuss what they are. When men or women start to develop lines or wrinkles, it tends to give them a prematurely aged appearance. There are surgical procedures that will reduce puffiness and smooth out wrinkles but they are too extreme for some people to contemplate. Those people often prefer a Dermal Filler because it is non invasive and can plump up areas of your face and smooth out lines. Two of the most popular Dermal Fillers are Juvederm and Restylane.

Both Juvederm® and Restylane®  fillers are made from a substance called hyaluronic acid which is a natural molecule found in the body.

When introduced into the skin, the acid binds with water and then starts to expand, filling out and plumping up the skin. Basically, they smooth out the wrinkles from the inside.

Choosing between the two often comes down to personal preference but keep the following in mind when making your choice:

  • Restylane® is a firmer compound so it is better for areas like the lips and deeper lines that require more support.
  • Both are gels but Juvederm® has a smooth consistency while Restylane® has a more granular consistency.
  • Juvederm® is considered to be longer lasting because it has 35% more hyaluronic acid in it than Restylane® does.
  • Duration varies greatly from individual to individual but in general, Restylane® lasts for around 6 months while Juvederm® can last up to a year.
